If you have attended a bowl/vert contest in Florida, there is a good chance that you have noticed Yarbs’s impressive bag of tricks. Brandon Yarborough, aka Yarbs, has been busy over the past few months. We catch up with Yarbs to talk about turning pro, skating contests, and building skateparks. (Note: This interview was written for a friends zine in Spring 2016, but the story never ran. We said fuck it and put it on our blog just as it is.)

LS: Yarbs! How’s it going?
BY: life is going! At the moment, I’m sitting here in PA at the job watching it rain.
LS: Will you introduce yourself?
BY: My name is Brandon Yarborough. I’m born and raised outta New Smyrna Beach, FL. I skate and build skateparks with Team Pain skate parks. I Ride for Demon Seed Skateboards, NIXON, Parrot Surf and Skate, Bulletproof Kevlar Laces, Dozer Grip, Domain Apparel, Team Pain skateparks!
LS: It seems like a busy couple months. How’s it feel to turn pro?
BY: It feels good! Its been a dream of mine ever since I first started skating. The board release party was rad, we had a lot of local support and many others come out. I was super hyped how it turned out. I turned pro for Demon Seed skateboards. Demon Seed is by far the coolest company around. They have always been there for me. All the other team guys know how to have a good time and rip. Its just a big family rad dudes all-around. I’ve been riding for them about five years now or so.
LS: Speaking of turning pro, how was the Tampa Pro Concrete Jam (2016)?
BY: The concrete jam was badass just a super fun session with all of the homies. The crowd was insane. They were getting super hyped. Cody Lockwood by far had the best trick of the contest with a front blunt on the Jenkem Obstacle.

LS: Speaking of Concrete… We just saw the Team Pain footage from the the new Jacksonville Park. It looks sick! How was building that park? How did you fall into that job?
BY: Being apart of the crew to build Jax Beach was an honor. They have been needing a good park for a long time. It is by far my favorite park. It has everything. I got real lucky to get this job. I knew a couple of the homies that worked for Team Pain already and it kinda just fell into place. I couldn’t be more thankful!
LS: What are your favorite parts of building skateparks? Do you have any favorites that you have helped build? Any favorite Team Pain parks in general?
BY: Getting to skate something that you helped build is my favorite part of it all. It is interesting being able to see what it goes into the final product and then have your finished product right there ready to ride. Max Beach is my fav. All the Team Pain parks are good!
I like how we can create something new and add it in where we think is best. It’s really a group effort! I get a real mental enjoyment out of building these parks cause it feels good to be able to build something that works.

LS: Any future plans?
BY: Just keep on keeping on! Working and skating, maybe do some traveling and see whats out there.
LS: Any last words?
BY: Just wanna thank all my family and friends cause I wouldn’t have anything without your support!
